On the first Tuesday of each month, the McKnight Church supplies a hot meal to those in need on the North Side of Pittsburgh through "Daily Bread" (formerly called the Congregate Feeding Program) of the United Methodist Church Union. A group of volunteers travels from McKnight to the New Hope United Methodist Church building to prepare and serve the meals.  Generally the group leaves McKnight at 10 am and returns by 1:30 pm. Contact Bob Brown (phi42@aol.com) if you are interested in volunteering.

January 2nd and February 6th

On Tuesday, January 2nd, Bob Mitchell, Robert Mitchell, Kathy Kelly, Dave Egan, and I served 43  guests (40 men, 3 women) 60 meals. The turnout was lower than normal, which we think may have been due to welfare checks being delivered on the first of the month and first day after a major holiday.

We were able to provide several bags of clothing and personal hygiene products.

Carol Neifert supplied the cookies.

On Tuesday, February 6th, Jo Magill, Nancy Weckley, Jack Slater, Bob Mitchell and I served 54 guests (50 men, 4 women and 0 child) 68 meals. The turnout was slightly lowered than expected.

Nancy Weckley supplied the cookies.

Clothing in high demand are underwear, socks, T-Shirts, and shoes. With spring eventually coming, warmer weather clothing is needed, such as, sweat shirts, sweaters and long sleeve shirts. Used clothing is acceptable. Toothbrushes, toothpaste and deodorant are also appreciated. Please bring your donations to the church and indicate for NSFP or Bob Brown. Innovative ways to contribute are collecting free samples of toothbrushes and toothpaste from your Dentist (this applies to Friday Nightz Rock also). Collecting soap and shampoo from motels/hotels while on vacation and/or business trips,) as well as collecting usable clothing from rummage sales is also another means.

Carol Neifert is supplying the cookies for March.

The next date is March 6th and I have enough volunteers. McKnight United Methodist Church is responsible to serve lunch the first Tuesday of each month.  We leave MUMC around 10:00 AM and return about 1:15PM. Please contact me if interested in volunteering (phi42@aol.com or 412-369-5117). The next three dates are: April 3rd, May 1st, and June 5th.
