CONGREGATE FEEDING PROGRAM - Daily Bread
On the first Tuesday of each month, the McKnight Church supplies a hot meal to those in need on the North Side of Pittsburgh through "Daily Bread" (formerly called the Congregate Feeding Program) of the United Methodist Church Union. A group of volunteers travels from McKnight to the New Hope United Methodist Church building to prepare and serve the meals. Generally the group leaves McKnight at 10 am and returns by 1:30 pm. Contact Bob Brown (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you are interested in volunteering.
On Tuesday, August 1st, Gerri and Rich Czado, Cindy and Emily Duessel and I served 51 guests (45 men, 5 women and 1 children) 76 meals. The turnout was once again high. Also, it was one of the hottest days in the kitchen.
Clothing in high demand are underwear, socks, T-Shirts, and shoes. With Fall on the way, heavier clothing is needed. Used clothing is acceptable. Please bring your donations to the church and indicate for NSFP or Bob Brown. Innovative ways to contribute are collecting free samples of toothbrushes and toothpaste from your Dentist (this applies to Friday Nightz Rock also). Collecting soap and shampoo from motels/hotels while on vacation and/or business trips,) as well as collecting usable clothing from rummage sales is also another means.
The cookies were provided by Nancy Weckley in August and she will be supplying for September as well.
The next date is September 5th for which I have enough volunteers. McKnight United Methodist Church is responsible to serve lunch the first Tuesday of each month. We leave MUMC around 10:00 AM and return about 1:15PM. Please contact me if interested in volunteering (email@example.com or 412-369-5117). The next three dates for 2016: Oct.3rd, Nov. 7th, and Dec. 1st.
Happy to report that MUMC has committed to support this great ministry by signing up again to serve lunch on the first Tuesday of each month for 2018.
